Working towards a violence-free world
Prayer for all Creation
Lord, all things come from you, help us to thank you, praise you and honour you, not only by our thoughts and words but also by our actions.
Father, forgive us for our greed and for the part we have played in destroying so much of the wonderful work of your hands.
Forgive us for the way we have exploited the Earth’s resources for ourselves while so many lack the basic necessities.
Instill in us a new heart and a new determination to follow a lifestyle that is gentle to the earth and all it’s creatures and just to the poor.
Amen

Christ Jesus
You are the beginning and the end.
In you all things were created
and in you all things are redeemed
Take now to your open arms
our grief for your creation,
for your wildlife, struggling against extinction;
for the hunted and the trapped;
for the abandoned and the homeless;
for your animals, unnaturally imprisoned,
transported and slaughtered in terror;
for your animals cruelly used
as laboratory tools.
Christ Jesus
In us you live as Risen Lord.
Our hearts plead with you now to carry the pain
of your suffering creatures,
even to the least of these.
The darkness of this world binds them
as it binds us, O Lord
and only your love can free us to live in your light.
Amen

Almighty God you have given us temporary lordship of your beautiful creation. But we have misused our power, turned away from responsibility and marred your image in us.
Forgive us true Lord, especially for our callousness and cruelty to animals.
Help us to follow the way of your son, Jesus Christ, who expressed power in humility and lordship in loving service.
Enable us by your spirit, to walk in newness of life, healing injury, avoiding wrong and making peace with all your creatures.
Amen

Eternal Father
we thank you
for these creatures
who live along side us
as our companions and friends;
for their loyalty, love
and trust which enrich
our lives and give us joy;
teach us
the value of kindness
the power of mercy
the strength of gentleness;
and create in us
a new spirit of humility
in the face of your creatures
within whose covenant
they live and die;
we ask these prayers
through your son Jesus Christ
whose new covenant
of love gives life
to us all.
Amen

Lord of all life
your creation groans in travail
awaiting the glorious liberty
of the children of God;
by your spirit help us
to free creation
from its bondage,
to heal its pain
and obtain that liberty
which is your gift to all creatures.
Amen

Father, we live in a world where things have gone badly wrong because we have forgotten you and left you out of account.
We have worshipped other gods and have not hallowed your Name.
We have adopted our own way of life and have not served your Kingdom.
We have chosen what pleases us and have not done your will.
Lord, forgive our sin and folly and blindness.
Turn us back to yourself, for the sake of your Son, who died to save us all.
Amen

Forgive us, Lord, for the damage we have done to the earth.
Forgive us that the rivers and seas have been polluted by the waste of our civilization.
Forgive us that the air as been turned foul by fuel and radioactive emissions.
Forgive us that flowers and animals have become extinct through our relentless invasion of their natural habitat.
Forgive us that we have so often valued profit more than the quality of the environment in which people have to live.
Help us to see the links between our lifestyle and the damage to your creation. May repentance lead to change, and change set a pattern for others to follow.
Amen
